Basic VIN information is available through CSV file delivery. Updates are made available monthly, upon email request. This file includes VIN / Year / Make / Model for US Consumer and Light duty commercial vehicles 1981-present. Using the CSV file is probably the easiest way to perform VIN validation, or simply to decode to a basic level. Licensing costs are dependent on usage and distribution. If more information than the basic data points is required, this data can be delivered via the XML VIN service, or a series of full tables can be made available. (See below). You can view a CSV file sample from the right menu as well as a supporting worksheet which shows how to easily match a 17-digit VIN to the provided VIN pattern.
For full content beyond simple VIN/Year/Make/Model, a set of advanced tables, media and other content are made available through extranet delivery. An account is created and tables are exported with updates to your account on a weekly basis. Tables are tab delimited, and the extranet has secure http access. Contact sales to find out more about licensing content to meet your requirements. Some limited content can be made available on a sample extranet account for evaluation purposes.
A third method of delivery is available for users that require a web service for VIN data and related media only. See XML VIN decoder.
Updates
The basic CSV file is updated via email request to support@dataonesoftware.com. An updated CSV file replacement will be sent back via email in zipped format. Depending on the year range, and data provided, the file size can range to 300-400kb compressed.
The advanced tables and content on the extranet are updated at least 1x per week with newly released vehicle content.
